Wednesday graduation ringing

Wednesday started cool and grey but the sun burned off the haar and we had a great day of ringing. There were only five of us but we tried a 240 of Grandsire, and a touch of St Simon's. For the procession after each ceremony we have been ringing an interesting piece of early 17th century single changes, from Duckworth's Tinntinnalogia (1668) p.16. This composition seems to go well with the solemn but celebratory atmosphere as the University officers process along North Street and in through the archway under the tower, led by the mace-bearers carrying the University's 15th-century silver-gilt ceremonial maces.

Today we rang for the graduation ceemonies in the University of St Andrews. We rang for half an hour at a time, before and after the chapel service and the two Graduation ceremonies. In between ringing, we went out into town for coffee, and we even managed to feed some ducks. There was also some handbell ringing in slack time up the tower.

More tomorrow starting at 9am!

Ringing for the Installation of the Principal part 2

Here are a couple of photos of our ringing this afternoon. We were away up the tower ringing so we missed out on the torchlit procession and never even got a glimpse of Prof. Sally Mapstone our new Principal! But we made a lot of glorious noise!

Ringing for the Installation of the Principal

Today we rang for the installation of Professor Sally Mapstone as Principal of the University of St Andrews. We rang the University's six bells from 8.30am for half an hour, right before a special service in the chapel. The tower looked beautiful in the morning sunlight with the University banner flying, and the clock newly painted and gilded.

...to be continued this afternoon, when we ring for the installation ceremony. Bells 2.30-3.00 and about 4.00-4.30pm
